Motorcyclist Hurt In Connecticut Crash

A Connecticut man was seriously injured when his motorcycle struck a pickup truck in New Britain on March 26. The accident happened at around 4:18 p.m.

According to authorities, the 28-year-old victim was riding his motorcycle westbound on West Main Street when a southbound pickup truck turned left in front of him at the Washington Street intersection. Police said both drivers had a green light at the time of the crash.

The motorcyclist suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to a local hospital for treatment. It is not clear whether the driver of the pickup truck, a 45-year-old New Britain man, was injured. West Main Street was shut down for over two hours as the New Britain Police Traffic Division investigated the crash scene. No citations have been issued, but the crash investigation has not yet been completed.

Motorcyclists are especially vulnerable when they are in a collision with another vehicle. Police officials carefully investigate all motor vehicle accidents that involve injuries or deaths. Injured victims may be able to use the resulting accident investigation report as the basis for a lawsuit against the driver who caused the crash. By using the report, witness testimony and other evidence, the attorney for a plaintiff will try to demonstrate that an impaired, distracted or otherwise negligent driver was responsible for the accident. If the case is successful, the victim could be awarded compensation for medical expenses, lost wages, pain and suffering and other applicable amounts. In some cases, the motorist’s insurance company will choose to settle out of court if the evidence is strong.
