Proposed truck speed limit regulations are a cause for debate

A joint proposal from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration may forcibly limit the speed of trucks and other large vehicles. The proposal's aim is to reduce the number of traffic fatalities on Connecticut and U.S. highways through the use of an electronic capping device that will render vehicles weighing more than 26,000 pounds unable to exceed a particular speed. Speed caps being considered are 60, 65 and 68 miles per hour, and lawmakers are seeking public comment over a 60-day period before the proposal is written into law.

More than 83 million drowsy drivers on U.S. roads every day

An August 2016 report from the Governors Highway Safety Association indicates that Connecticut motorists may want to consider adding drowsy or fatigued motorists to their list of highway perils. According to the GHSA, there are more than 83 million drowsy Americans drivers on the road each day, and the accidents they cause kill more than 5,000 people annually.

CVSA to crack down on reckless driving

Why Do I Need A Lawyer After An Accident?

A motor vehicle accident can be traumatizing. You're worried about the severity of your injuries. You're worried about getting your car fixed and getting back to work. You're worried about avoiding financial devastation through the process and after. While many people carry enough insurance to keep them financially stable, countless others face serious trouble.

Distracted driving rampant but likely underreported

Motorists peering at cellphone screens instead of the road ahead are a common sight on the roads of Connecticut, and lawmakers and road safety advocacy groups around the country are becoming increasingly concerned about the popularity of smartphone apps such as the wildly successful augmented reality game Pokémon GO. These concerns are fueled by the kind of data found in a report released by Liberty Mutual. The insurance giant discovered that almost 70 percent of teen drivers admitted to using smartphone apps while behind the wheel.
