Woman killed in Connecticut car crash

A 24-year-old woman was killed in a car crash that took place at 5:27 p.m. in Bridgeport on July 17. The woman was driving southbound on Interstate 95 when her car was hit on the left passenger side by a Mitsubishi being driven by a 26-year-old woman. After getting hit by the Mitsubishi, the woman's car crossed three lanes of traffic and hit a concrete barrier.

With all the car wrecks that occur daily in Connecticut and across the nation, a large number of drivers and passengers are severely injured. Fall in road fatalities in the U.S. lower than in other countries

While the roads in Connecticut and other U.S. states may not be as dangerous as they were a decade ago, improvements in road safety have been far more pronounced in other developed nations according to a July 6 report from the Centers for Disease Control. American road fatalities have fallen by 31 percent in the last 13 years, but death rates plummeted by an average of 56 percent in 19 other developed countries during those same years. Road fatalities in Spain plummeted by more than 75 percent.

Truck collision avoidance technology unveiled

Connecticut drivers may be interested to learn that two truck component suppliers unveiled rear-end collision avoidance technology that may prevent more trucks from becoming involved in rear-end collisions. The technology, called the Evasive Maneuver Assist system, would allow the truck to autonomously steer around a vehicle that is stopped in the road if it cannot brake in time to avoid becoming involved in a collision.
