Connecticut Police Work To Keep Roads Safe Over Holidays

New Year’s holiday weekend is well known as a time that keeps law enforcement officers busy with the state’s roads. In an effort to keep the number of accidents that occur on Connecticut state roads to a minimum, enforcement efforts are usually stepped-up. This year was no different and the state police recently released information regarding the tickets handed out and arrests made.

As compared to the previous year, the number of accidents that occurred was up this year. A total of 215 accidents were responded to by state troopers and 27 of those accidents resulted in injuries. In contrast, in 2015 the number of crashes was much lower at 158, though the number of injuries was one more than this year. While one person was killed in a car accident this year, no one lost their life last year.

In addition to responding to more accidents this year, state troopers also issued more tickets. Speeding tickets totaled 1097 and seatbelt violations, 35. In 2015, both of those numbers were lower.

The higher number of incidents on the road this year is likely due, at least in part, to the fact that more people were on the road this year than last.
