2 Dead Following Fatal Car Accident In Connecticut

Two women lost their lives on Interstate 95 the morning of Jan. 11. Connecticut authorities responded to a fatal car accident that involved two cars and a tractor-trailer. Interstate 95 was closed for several hours while police conducted their on scene investigation.

According to the accident report, a vehicle driven by a 28-year-old woman attempted to pass a tractor trailer and wound up striking the vehicle. This caused her car to veer left, striking the median and careening into another vehicle. The driver of the tractor trailer was uninjured in this exchange.

However, the 28-year-old driver, the 72-year-old driver of the other vehicle and a 69-year-old passenger in the second vehicle were all injured. The 28-year-old and the 69-year-old suffered serious injuries and were both pronounced dead, one at the accident location and the other at a hospital. The second driver escaped with only minor injuries. Police are still investigating the particulars of the crash and have asked any witnesses with information to please step forward and aid in the ongoing investigation.

Since the driver believed responsible for this Connecticut car accident died, no criminal charges may be filed against her. However, the family of the deceased passenger, as well as the injured driver of the other car, may choose to file civil lawsuits against the deceased driver’s estate and anyone else with an ownership interest in the vehicle she was operating. These lawsuits would take the form of wrongful death and personal injury claims, respectively, and require proof of negligence that is found to have caused or substantially contributed to the collisions.
