Many people expected to travel around Christmas holiday

When Christmas comes, many people throughout the nation opt to spend the holiday with friends and family celebrating. This results in people using various forms of transportation to get from one point to another. The American Automobile Association indicates many Americans are planning on doing this around Christmas and New Years. It estimates that close to 1 in 3 people--or approximately 100.5 million--will get into their cars and travel more than 50 miles. This is a record high.

While there are multiple ways in which people will travel, close to 91 percent are expected to use a motor vehicle. In New England, the number of travelers is particularly high. Up more than 2 percent from last year, more than 3.8 million are expected to drive to their destination.

There are multiple reasons cited for this increase. The first is higher employment. Second is a rise in incomes. These provide individuals with the income needed to pay for expenses related to the voyage. In addition, lower gas and crude oil prices are playing a part.

The large number of vehicles on the nation's roads is not all good news however. The greater number of travelers could translate into more motor vehicle accidents. These could be reduced by drivers making good choices on the road, including opting for finding another way home when they have consumed too much alcohol.

If you are hurt in a car accident that is the result of the negligence of another party you should know you may have legal options. Filing a personal injury lawsuit against those who caused the injury to occur could result in the recovery of damages for those injuries. A personal injury lawyer can help determine the best approach to take in these situations.
